Leon and Sharon, a husband and wife team, flew to Virginia in the United States, also known as the horse country of the United States, to learn a distinct skill lacking in Singapore.
Their experience in show barns, farms, a therapeutic riding center and animal shelters in the States allows them the opportunity to learn a great deal about horses, cats and dogs.
To gain experience in handling horses, they worked in one of Virginia’s top Arabian horse barns.
Doing well, they clinched a contract to massage the Virginia Beach Horse Mounted Police’s horses. They were the first Asians in North America to be able to do that.
Subsequently, they also volunteered their time to massage animals at a therapeutic horse-riding center and animal shelters, sharing their love for animals.
Their experiences taught them a great deal about the care of various horse and dog breeds. Some of the horse breeds they had handled ranged from thoroughbreds, Arabs, quarter horses and heavy draft horses.
They also conducted therapy sessions with many dog breeds including Beagles, Newfoundlands, Bernese Mountain Dogs and Airedales, among many others in the shelters.
Back home in Singapore, they are working together with various vets and trainers in the Singapore Turf Club to improve the well-being of animals in Singapore.
